Self delusion, however this is one of your greatest powers. But you can be self absorbed into your own delusion of how something should or could work. Now i’ve done this myself but when i do this, i treat the whole concept as an experiment lowering the expectations and the guilt load of how the thing turns out. But when people do this and with a high guilt load and bias every bit of data insight with their preferred lens of acceptance, bad things happen.
Onset Protectionism, this whole “sign my NDA” when talking to folks as if you idea is new at all. This kills your own momentum cause you’re exhibiting high maintenance tendencies too early in the game. The goal should be to tell the world about your idea, open doors, get people to help you for nothing because they want to be part of your momentum, but here you are being all so protective of basically nothing. A NDA is for protecting a specific or intricate process, something the average person would not think of without significant research. Even then if it can be researched and conceptualized in less than 30 minutes on Google, thats not really NDA material. An NDA makes a bold statement that you’re winning- most aren’t and be careful with karma, a boast before the earned win, comes back to bite ya every time.
Do I Have Permission’ism, that being the confidence that yes you have permission to do everything and anything to net momentum. A lot of first timers are looking for permission to talk to people, learn about the space they are in, and few retain the inner mindset of oh yes i have permission, i am the mission. Sheer confidence of will needs that enablement. When you hesitate, you kill the flow.
Lack of Experimentation, you’re inability to realize that while piling everything on one idea and trying to will it into existence is yeah fun and challenging, your goal as biz builder may be to find that biz that is screaming to be built. You should experiment more- try 3 ideas in parallel. Find the one that seems to have its own willing momentum with some or little effort.
Missing Metrics Syndrome, how do you know if you’re doing well or not? What are the metrics of success or more so “are we getting better?”. They can be elusive but they don’t have to be daunting. Make your own metrics, challenge yourself to be accountable to a higher power and think ok what should I be tracking to know I’m on track?
